2018 USPS Rate Comparison for CJ users

First Class Mail Package

First Class Mail Package is a great way to ship smaller packages economically. If your package weighs less than 16oz and does not exceed 108" in combined length and girth (the measurement around the package at its thickest part), it qualifies for First Class Mail! There are only two tiers of First Class Mail rates. The rates you pay are in the middle column! And while Retail Rates only go up to 13 ounces for First Class Mail, your SAS account offers you discounted rates for any sized package up to 16 ounces.

Priority Flat Rate Priority Mail Flat Rate

It is a 1-3 day shipping service that charges one flat rate for your package/envelope, with a maximum allowable weight of 70 lbs. The rates you have access to are lower than Retail rates and even $0.20-$0.60 less than Commercial Base pricing!

Priority Regional Rate Boxes:

While Flat Rate Boxes have a single rate regardless of the destination zone. Priority Regional Rate Boxes have a zone-dependent flat rate. Depending on the zone you are shipping to, you may find the Regional Rate Box is cheaper. Essentially, Flat Rate Boxes are ideal for shipping long distances and Regional Rate Boxes are ideal for shorter distances. Below are the costs of sending Regional Rate Boxes to each of the USPS's 9 zones vs the cost of Commercial Base pricing. Regional Rate boxes also cost $2.25 more for Retail Rates. Regional Rate Box A: 10" x 7" x 4.75" Regional Rate Box B: 12" x 10.25" x 5"

To view zones relative to your ship from location, use the USPS Domestic Zone Chart tool. Retail rates cost an additional $2.25 per shipment. Priority Mail Packages/Thick Envelope Priority Mail package or thick envelopes are a great way to quickly, yet efficiently, ship packages that are under 70lbs and do not exceed 108" in combined length and girth (girth = the distance around its thickest part). This table lists Priority Mail pricing up to 25lbs for all 9 zones. To view Priority Mail pricing up to 70lbs, download the attached PDF included at the end of this article. For shipments under 10 lbs, you will get Commercial Plus rates for Priority Mail Packages. Anything over 10 lbs will be Commercial Base pricing. This table goes over shipments weighing up to 25 lbs. To see the comparison of Retail vs Commercial Base for shipments between 26-70 lbs, download the table at the bottom of the page.
