This article summarizes many precious Q&A, and hope it can help you with your dropshipping business. For the complete live webinar, please check out here.

Q: What is your strategy to find a winning product and what are your criteria for the selection of products?

A: There are a couple of things that I will look at when choosing my products. The first one will be non-electric products. I don't like to sell all kinds of electric products that you need to plug into the electricity plug because they might come with failure on arrival. When they come to the customer so it doesn't work and the customer needs to send it back. And the second rule is I want the product to be lightly weighted so that I don’t need to pay so much for shipping. The third rule is very important. I would prefer to find a product that is a problem solver. And another rule is that I would like to find products that can trigger customer’s emotions. And sell the products your customers are passionate about, for example, sell cat products if the customers are passionate about cats. The next rule is I pick products that I no need to educate the market, especially for beginners. I don’t need to tell customers what is the product and what you will get in life when you use this product. And the last point is to find products that are in stock, easy to produce or easy to get stocks, otherwise all my scaling would be ruined if I cannot keep up with my orders.

Q: Is branding possible on dropshipping as we don't manage the product or quality of the products or is it more for e-commerce?

A: It is definitely possible to brand on dropshipping. As a customer, I have a very good experience with branding my products with CJ and I think that it's really important to find your own position and create your own branding for dropshipping business, or at least to put your logo on the package and to have a nice gift to every customer that bought from you. So branding is possible on dropshipping and it is also highly recommended. CJ actually provides services like POD products and customized packaging and photo, video shooting services for dropshippers to build their own brands and it’s very easy to do so. It is a way to differentiate your products from competitors and create brand loyalty and attract customers.

Q: What are your thoughts on SEO?

A: SEO is extremely important I know that not a lot of mentors out there that are teaching dropshipping talk about SEO. I really think that it's not enough how often SEO is being talked about the fact that eCommerce stores need also to build up with good SEO. When you're building your own e-commerce store, think SEO for a moment and at least put a strategy to build it in the right way. Because moving forward, one or two years from now, you want to sell your products and you will get much higher prices with SEO implemented inside the store when with the organic traffic that's coming on a regular basis rather than just traffic from Facebook advertising.

Q: What is your opinion on Facebook advertising?

A: Facebook advertising is a must, and is the most advanced way to drive traffic from a place to your store. As I spoke last time in the last episode, we need first to understand where is our audience. If our audience is a young audience, maybe he's not on Facebook. For example, my kids are 16 15 years old they don't even have a Facebook profile but they are all day on Tiktok, so if I'm selling a product to kids or I want the kids to get familiar with my brand, I will not target the kids on Facebook. I will target them on Tiktok. But if my products are appealing to an elder audience like 50 years old, and I know that it's like a woman from the South of America, she is most likely to be on Facebook. So I will be focused my advertising effort on Facebook. So that's the idea of what I'm thinking about. Facebook advertising could be the best way to promote your products, but it does not have to for other products or other people. It will only be effective if your product is targeted to the right audience on the right platform.

Q: What's your opinion on people doing Facebook ads using a small amount of money to test and watch the response?

A: Yes. The way we test our products is to put a very low amount of money on advertising cost, like 5 to 15 dollar. A small amount of budget gives Facebook the option to target a small amount of audience, but if the small amount of audience is well-targeted, then you know it is the right way to go. For example, if the 15 you spent allows you to receive an order or two, then you know this product is probably appealing to the audience. After that, you can put another 15 or even 20 dollars into the ads and see if you get more orders. However, advertising takes more than just one session to learn. And Facebook ads are just a way for you to take traffic from this platform to your stores, but it doesn’t mean this traffic will be converted to sales. To higher your conversion rate, it’s all about your products and websites.

Q: Is it a good idea to try to find past products that were successful but not currently trending?

A: Yes, of course. It's a very strong method and strategy. I was in the Philippines and I was helping people in the Philippines to build their own ecom brands, and I was giving lectures. The first thing I told them was to go back three years, and look at the old Facebook ads and find what were the winning products at that time. Because the Philippines is about three years behind the US ecom market. And these products are still new for the Philippine customers. And those products did become trending in the Philippines again.
